How to Measure & Install Artificial Hedge Panels
Measure once, order the right count, and put the panels up in an afternoon.
Measuring the area
- Height and width. Measure the area you want covered, top to bottom and end to end, in inches. On a fence, measure inside the posts and rails; on a wall, measure the face you will cover.
- Convert to panels. Each product page gives the panel or roll size. Divide the width and the height by the panel dimensions and round up; the extra is trimmed at the edges.
- Order one spare. Cuts, corners and a future repair are easier with a spare panel from the same batch, so the color matches.
Installing mats and rolls
- Start at a top corner. Hold the first panel square to the top edge and attach it with the included UV-rated zip ties through the grid on the back, around the fence mesh or a batten on a wall.
- Interlock the next panel. The grids overlap at the edges so the seam disappears in the foliage; tie through both grids where they overlap.
- Trim to fit. Cut the grid, not the foliage, with snips, and tuck loose foliage back toward the seam.
- Finish the edges. Fold the foliage at the edges over the grid so no plastic shows at posts, corners and the top rail.
Living walls
Living wall panels mount the same way, to a fence, a trellis or battens on a wall. Plan the layout on the ground first so the taller foliage sits where you want it, then work top to bottom.
Freestanding hedges and expandable fences
Freestanding hedges arrive in their planter; set the planter where the hedge will live, then fluff the foliage. Expandable privacy fences stretch to the width you need and tie to a railing, a fence or hooks on a wall at the top corners and the middle.
Care
Rinse dust off with a hose. Foliage that has flattened in shipping opens up in the sun within a day or two. Keep panels away from open flame and grills unless the product page lists a fire rating.
